At the heart of the Meinl Sonic Energy 17-note pickup kalimba mahogany is the pioneering Sonic Energy Pickup System—the first of its kind designed specifically for kalimbas. The volume control knob and three-band EQ provide precise tonal shaping, allowing you to dial in the perfect amplified sound. Boost the bass for a warm, rich tone, increase the mids for extra note definition, or turn up the treble for a bright, shimmering sound. A phase switch reverses the polarity of the pickup for a more balanced tone when playing in stereo. Powered by a 9V battery, the Sonic Energy Pickup System gives kalimba players unprecedented control over their amplified tone. This kalimba is equipped with 17 high-quality steel tines that span two octaves, from G to G. The tines are tuned to the natural minor pentatonic scale, producing harmonious tones that are perfect for melodic playing and improvisation. Rest your thumbs on the wooden soundboard and pluck the tines to create shimmering metallic tones. The tines provide a wide range for playing single notes, intervals, and full chords.
